Killington Triathlon, Killington VT - May 29, 2001

Hi all this is coach Megan Ribaudo reporting from a sloppy Killington Mountain where the weather was lousy for the 11th annual Killington Triathlon. For those that weren't aware of it this was the place to be for racing this past Memorial Day weekend.

In a great show of Rage Spirit, a large Rage crowd descended on the mountain to try their hand at a combination of Skiing, Mtn Biking and Cross Country running.

The Snow course consisted of about 300 yards of icy bumps left on Superstar trail. The bike course was shortened (my Dad says they took out the single track because they were afraid some of the pansy skiers might get hurt in the mud on their bikes) and was 2 laps, each about 2.5 miles of either muddy double track or fireroad climbing. To finish there was about 2.5 miles of Muddy running, up, down and across the muddy ski slopes.

The race had 359 entrants, with 76 women and 279 men. Two separate ski houses were utilized to house the RAGE athletes and spectators and provide a fine base for drinking and eating festivities.

Not only was there a large contingent of RAGE racers (19 in all), but the large RAGE supporting crowd (10-15) led by Mr. Brandon Kelly and Mr. Dougie Thomas on their PVC megaphones, lined all sections of the course and hung around in the misty rain and fog to cheer the racers on and take pictures from all directions (thanks to everyone, Mum, Dad and all the racers said the support was outstanding).

I myself had a prime spot on my friend Michelle¹s back in my luxury backpack (with canopy to protect me from the rain).

Top RAGE honors went to Chris Smith who placed 3rd overall 2nd in the 20-35 age bracket overall time of 56:37:60

Next was Dave Currie who smoked the field in the run with a time almost 2 minutes faster than his nearest competitor. Dave finished 7th overall 6th in his class with a time of 57:51:00.

My Dad, Tom (Ribs) Ribaudo, (the old man of the crowd,) was next coming in 23rd overall 5th in the 36-45 age bracket (go Dad!!) with a time of 1:02:30:3

The rest of the men's results are below.

On the womens side of things Top Rage honors went to Judy Keeley. Judy finished 23rd overall 16th in her class (20-35) time of 1:24:44:9

Next came my Mum, Heather (Mrs. Ribs) Ribaudo 33rd overall 23rd in class (20-35) time 1:31:24:9

Third women RAGER was Joselle Crandell 35th overall 25th in class (20-35) time 1:36:36:9

And the rest of the women results are below.

A few folks missed their start times on the skiing and as it was multiplied by a factor of five this greatly hurt there overall time in the end.

A few other highlights included Bill Spaulding having a great time hopping around on the course while working together with Steph. Bill also took a page from JD's book last year with a cartwheel across the finish line. Alex's friend Jason came all the way back from the UK to take part this year after being a spectator last year and won a snow-board for his efforts. JD had a stellar crash ending up in a ditch yet still managed to get up and finish. Hank and Jeff put forth a great effort not allowing the "I can't run" theme to cross their lips.

Finally, my friend Michelle closed out the weekend with a 2nd place finish in the ³running race² to the peak (Killington Klimb) on Monday morning. Way to go Michelle !

Given the bad weather, all racers and spectators should be commended for a job well done on this one. Baby Ribs OUT!!
